This machine is an up to date edgy box with sane installed etc. I will attach 3 further debug outputs. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. HP bluntly told us they would not support this scanner and we should buy a new one. That should be enough to get you started, but perhaps someone versed in udev rules will happen along to help you the rest of the way.

USB, HP ScanJet 5300c

On the first attempt, the preview scan is successful. Can’t speak for 2.

This is a regression, as this scanner is known to have worked in earlier versions. Looks like I need to throw my current HP scanner out now. I have llnux using Kubuntu for over a year now with no issues.

Thomas, thank you for the quick response. It seems that you have not the package sane-utils installed. HP ScanJet scanner HI,as i upgraded my pc from ultimate to a new gaming pc home premium,i cant install my scanner the HP ScanJet c,driver installed but wont work,it is not recognized in devise manager,i uninstalled it and re installed it several times but wont start,as it says installation ok but wont start.


It also means we cannot use the additional memory we purchased to use pinux the 64 bit operating system. Comment on this change optional. Getting this scanner to work properly can be tricky and is scnjet for the faint hearted.

Hewlett-Packard ScanJet C flatbed scanner won’t work

The xsane project lists it in niether the supported or unsupported lists? It also seems that somebody knows how to compile this in Linux, but I am too new to try this. I just 5300d W7 and am feeling the same frustration with an HP C scanner.
